Measured Drawing

Hi there, back at it again with the E-portfolio! For this time, I took a short sem, which was semester 2.5, and the interesting part was; while other groups were focusing on Malaysian buildings, our group went to China! (Of course we had to pay, nothing's free). Our group consisted of Me, Sue, Yu Xuan, Ellen, Sam, Joe, Ridzwan, Nurin, Nurina, Hong Bin, Pablo, Philia, and Farah. We went to Xi'an, China for nine days and measured a part of a museum, a courtyard called Li Yuan for four days.

We had a unique experience doing Measured Drawing in China,  even though we had to measure and sketch buildings out in -11˚ celsius temperature. We also got to see the Terra-cotta army up close, so that's cool.

Right after we arrived back in Malaysia, we had to do several sketches on parts of the buildings, it's pretty straightforward, but here are the sketches.

In Li Yuan, I was tasked to make a video documenting informations about the building and its' cultural significance, the video will take about five minutes, so, enjoy!

After my part in video making, I joined the model making team and made a 1:50 scale of Li Yuan. The model making group consisted of me, Hong Bin, Yu Xuan, Ellen, Pablo, and Nurina. We had to refer every measurements to the drawing team and had to make the model as accurate as possible. It felt way different than Studio or any other subjects.

The model took weeks to build, and costs more than RM1k, for the materials, and including the laser cutting. Completing the model in front of our very own eyes felt like a major accomplishment!

We also had two other divisions in making this project move smoothly; the drawing team, and the report team. Both groups did their part respectively, click here to go to the link for the drawings, and here for the report!

In conclusion, we had a great time going to China and managed to complete the project, it's a unique experience since our building and conditions that we had to face through was significantly different from everyone else, but I didn't regret one bit at all, we had a great time!
