The main task for f&c, a topic based on observation on how does the surroundings that we eat in affects our eating experience.
The food does tastes different when subjected into different ambiance; different settings; location and conditions of a space, and to see if there’s a difference in eating experience when subjected to different conditions while consuming food; does the overall architecture of the place gives off a different feeling while consuming food?
The food tied back to Malay food; same ingredients, same methods of cooking, but compared to three, completely different settings, starting from a cluttered, noisy environment, up to a quaint fusion cafe, and compared to the same style of cooking but in a high end, candlelight-lit restaurant, and surprisingly, the same type of food does taste different; the food ordered were within the same taste profile, but due to ambiance, it does produce slight alteration in taste. And as for conclusion, Malay cuisine is suited for sharing in a bright environment as even though the food at Bijan, the high-end Malay restaurant had complex taste profile, the essence of Malay cuisine can only be felt when eaten in a well-lit, family-oriented situation.
